Last week I said that one of the difficulties of our current, polarized political climate is that to speak up on any controversial issue is to be pigeon-holed into a political party or agenda. As Christians our loyalty lies not on a political platform, which will rot and decay, but on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ, which lasts forever. One of my favorite TV shows is The X-Files. In my opinion, it is a classic like The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits and Night Gallery. The Holy Spirit is given many titles by Jesus in his farewell discourse (John 13:31-17:26). One of those titles is “the Spirit of truth” (John 14:17; 15:26; 16:13).
Many of us long for truth but are increasingly confounded by our search for it. We hit the internet, TED talks, podcasts, and maybe even – dare I say – Facebook, to find something we can hang our hat on and know it will hold. Continue reading
