Ghosted by God? (Romans 1:20)

Romans 1:20

In our popular culture being “ghosted” means to cut off all communication with someone without explanation. Many people feel they have been ghosted by God. So where is God? Have you looked for him? Why is he hidden from us? If he is sovereign and all powerful and loving, would it not be wise to reveal himself more readily to humanity? Continue reading

You Are More Precious Than Diamonds (Isaiah 43:4)

You Are More Precious Than Diamonds

Isaiah 43:4

Back in the 1980’s there was a DeBeers Diamond commercial on TV that showed an elderly couple and a young couple walking hand in hand in a park. It has become a classic of sorts, as commercials go, and is often referred to as “Hands”. The voice over says, “There are two things that last longer than time; Love is one of them…” The music score was the beautiful In the Mood for Love (aka Yumeji’s Theme). Continue reading

2 Timothy 3:16; 4:2

I work in the medical field as a nurse. I work with an experienced and mature Medical Doctor who is also a Christian. In the course of a day we encounter a wide variety of medical problems, most are physical ailments, disease and age related. Yet many are mental, emotional, and addiction related. These are all discussed in strict privacy.

The subject spoke of least of all is spiritual ailments. Continue reading

Psalm 90:2

Time is sacred. Theologian Carl F.H. Henry characterized time as “the divinely created sphere of God’s preserving and redemptive work, and the arena of man’s decision on his way to an eternal destiny.” Continue reading

Sacred Time: Part 1- What is Time? (Jude 25)

Sacred Time_ Part 1- What is Time_

Jude 25

Time, what is it? Time is ubiquitous yet necessary for everyday life and all academic thought, but its fundamental nature remains a complete mystery.  Time is persistent and unaffected by humanity, by you and I. Time dominates all human enterprise (or seems to) and will not stop, slow down or be altered by any technology or industry. Nothing makes a difference to the unstoppable ticking of the clock. Mark 3:11

Ever had a splinter? A splinter is a small thing. It can be biological, usually wood or bone, or sometimes non-biological like glass, metal or fishhooks. A splinter is a small thing that can cause great distress in your finger or wherever else it may be. It hurts and throbs and distracts you. Some splinters have led to amputations and death. Ephesians 3:14-15

As men, as fathers our model is God the Father.

A good Father is a miracle formed by God. No man has the necessary gifts, strength, and determination to love a woman and their children in a way that happily and selflessly sacrifices for their needs and consistently leads them to Christlikeness.

Many of us grew up with fathers that did not lead their children to God and his love; instead they thoughtlessly and selfishly provoked us to discouragement and anger. Continue reading

Old Books: The Clean Sea Breeze of the Centuries

The Clean Sea Breeze of the Centuries

Recently at an estate sale I purchased a set of 8 small books. They were published in 1910 by Merrill Publishing. One book in particular caught my eye: Selections from the Writings of Abraham Lincoln. In its preface it states, to paraphrase; “The speeches have a deeper significance and a higher mission…They are exponents of a character and the mirror of life.” The book was published only 45 years after Lincoln’s death. Romans 15:4

Does theology matter? Can you be a Christian without it?

Theology (Greek logos, or “word,” with theos or “God”) is words or knowledge concerning God. Scripture is the God-given foundation and only infallible source for all true theology. All Scripture is “breathed out by God” (2 Timothy 3:16) and is “the only rule to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy him” (Westminster Shorter Catechism 2). Continue reading

A Riddle to Ourselves (Isaiah 55:8)

A Riddle to Ourselves.png

Isaiah 55:8

Riddle me this is a synonym for a demand that the listener solve a conundrum (something puzzling).

That conundrum is you and me. We are a riddle (a mystifying question) to ourselves within the paradox (apparent contradiction) of the Christian life. Continue reading
