What do you like best about your mom?

Luke 13:34

What do you like best about your mom?

There are some things that only our moms can teach us about God. Our dads can teach us about God too; however, there are some things that only our moms can teach us about God. Let’s look at a passage from the Gospel of Luke:

What is Jesus talking about? He’s talking about all the people who would not believe in him and how it made him very sad. He says that he would have liked to gather them like a mother hen gathers her chicks, but they would not let him.

Moms can be like that too. They care for us so much. They nursed us when we were young. They protected us from danger. They comforted us at times when only they could comfort us. They do not want anything bad to happen to us. If we ran away like these people did to God, they would run after us and want to put their arms around us. That is why God sent Jesus to run after us, so that the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit could be with us and love us. Jesus died on the cross to forgive our unbelief. He rose from the dead to overcome our running away, rebellious streak. The Holy Spirit nurtures our faith day by day, applying to our lives all the comforts of Christ’s atoning sacrifice.

Look at the picture above. What do you see? That picture has something to teach us about God. God gave us mothers. They do not always do this and need forgiveness too. Yet, we can look at our moms in their best moments and see a little bit of what God is all about.

Let’s pray:

Dear Lord, thank you for loving us. Thank you for running after us when we ran away from you. Thank you for our moms, who in some ways can teach us something only our moms can teach us about you. How blessed we are to have moms. Help us show our appreciation for our moms today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
